Unexpectedly good. Fish and chips aren't great in our part of the world compared with areas like Yorkshire, East Anglia and Scotland (well some places in Scotland). There's nowhere any good in Chester and in Wrexham the only other decent place is Jones's. Jones is remarkable for value but the haddock and chips l had here beat it hands down and was difficult to fault.
The abiding sin of dodgy chippies is frying at too low a temperature so that batter is a sort of wet blanket which soaks up oil and is uncooked at the centre. But this was crisp, dry and bubbly with the fish still firm. The chips were OK too. The guy who cooked it obviously takes pride in what he does. It just goes to show you cannot always judge a place by its external appearance. -

The friendly friers of Gwersylt fish bar provide a fast efficent and competatively priced service and stock fish, chips, battered sausages, gravy, assorted sauces, cold drinks and kebabs. The chips tend to be on the greasy side though.
